Established in 2009 as the Cincinnati Saints, the team had been a member of the affiliated amateur Premier Arena Soccer League before moving up to the pro league in 2013. In 2014 the team returned to the amateur league and in May 2014, the Saints organization played outdoor soccer as an expansion team in the Great Lakes Conference of the National Premier Soccer League. In November 2015, the Saints announced their intentions to move the club to Dayton, Ohio and officially became the Dayton Dynamo, naming the team after the old indoor soccer team.
